Hanoi Train Street is home to a historic railroad, over a century old, originating from the French colonial era. The act of eagerly awaiting the train's passage through the narrow passage between houses has emerged as one of Hanoi's most renowned attractions. Visitors are captivated by the astonishingly tight space, with a mere 4 to 5 meters separating the two rows of houses, allowing just enough clearance for the locomotive to pass through.

Where is the new Hanoi train street ?

The Hanoi train street is located in Phung Hung Street and Tran Phu Street. It is a hundred meter train track that has many coffee shops on both sides.

From the city center ( Hoan Kiem Lake) visitors could walk along Hang Gai to Hang Bong street and turn right to Phung Hung Street. Walkabout hundred meters to the Hanoi train street.

Is the Hanoi train street open ?

Despite the prohibition, the Cafe shops by the Hanoi train street are still open for tourists. Tour companies and tour guides are not allowed to take tourists there. Tourists could go and explore by themselves. That would not be a problem.

When to visit the Hanoi train street ?

From Monday to Friday: 7:00 PM; 7:45 PM; 8:30 PM; and 10:00 PM
From Saturday to Sunday: 6:00 AM; 9:00 AM; 11:20 AM; 3:20 PM; 5:30 PM; 6:00 PM; 7:00 PM; 7:45 PM; 8:30 PM; 9:00 PM; 11:00 PM

As the train schedule may vary, it is advisable to anticipate a potential 15-minute delay. To secure a prime viewing spot, it is recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of the expected schedule.

Another Hanoi train street ?

Yes, it is located in Kham Thien Street ( right down south of Hanoi railway station) A little further from the Hanoi Old Quarter. However, in this train street, it is open and tourists can go in easily.

It will take about 30 minutes to walk from Hoan Kiem Lake to this new train street. Please see the map for directions and the location.

Two trains run along this route daily: one at 3:30 pm and another at 7:30 pm. For optimal photography, we recommend choosing the 3:30 pm train to capture daylight conditions.
